How it works
Kìa points at something the listener should notice now: 'look!/there!': Xe buýt đến kìa! 'Look, the bus is coming!' Đây này 'here it is', đấy/đó 'there (you go)'. Kìa can open a sentence to urge or protest: Kìa, ăn đi chứ! 'Come on, eat!' It is spoken, not written. Mistake: confusing kìa with kia 'that (over there)': con chó kia 'that dog' vs Con chó kìa! 'Look, a dog!'
