How it works
Cơ (Northern, colloquial) at the end insists on the exact thing meant or corrects a misunderstanding: Em muốn cái màu đỏ cơ 'I want the RED one'. It can sound childish or sulky (Em không chịu cơ! 'I won't!'), but between friends it is warm. Cơ mà / kia mà adds 'but I thought…': Anh bảo hôm nay cơ mà! 'But you said today!' Mistake: using cơ in formal speech, or confusing it with cơ = 'muscle/opportunity' (cơ hội).
