How it works
Mới after a condition means 'only then': Phải học chăm mới thi đỗ được 'You have to study hard to pass (only then will you pass)'. Có A mới có B 'only with A is there B': Có công mài sắt, có ngày nên kim (proverb). The A clause states the necessary condition; mới goes before the verb of the result. Mistake: translating with nếu… thì, which loses the 'only' sense; or putting mới after the verb.
