How it works
Nếu 'if' opens the condition; thì often marks the start of the result: Nếu mai trời mưa thì chúng ta ở nhà 'If it rains tomorrow, we'll stay home'. Verbs don't change, so the same pattern covers real and imagined conditions; add giá mà / nếu… thì đã for regrets about the past (B2). Variants: hễ… là 'whenever', nếu không 'otherwise'. Mistake: putting thì before nếu or at the end of the sentence; thì always opens the result clause.

Nếu có thời gian, tôi sẽ đến thăm anh.If I have time, I'll visit you.
