How it works
Thì after a word or phrase marks it as the topic and often contrasts it with others: Tôi thì thích trà 'As for me, I like tea (others may not)'. Hôm nay thì không được 'Today (specifically) is not possible'. It also links condition/time to result (nếu… thì, khi… thì). Thì never comes at the very end, and it is NOT 'is': Cô ấy thì đẹp means 'She, (at least,) is pretty', implying contrast. Mistake: using thì as a general 'to be'.
