How it works
In writing, the agent of a passive is often introduced with do or bởi. Do comes BEFORE the verb: Bức tranh này do Bùi Xuân Phái vẽ 'This painting was painted by Bui Xuan Phai'. Bởi follows the verb in được/bị sentences, a style influenced by Western languages: Cuốn sách được viết bởi… In speech prefer bị/được + agent + V. Do also means 'due to' (cause, B2). Mistake: overusing bởi in speech; it sounds like translationese.
