How it works
Sắp before a verb means 'about to / soon': Tôi sắp đi 'I'm about to leave', Sắp Tết rồi 'Tết is coming soon'. Often rồi is added at the end for 'any moment now'. It is closer than sẽ: sẽ is just future, sắp is near future. Sắp + noun of time also works: sắp đến giờ. Mistake: using sắp for distant plans (Năm sau tôi sắp… sounds odd) or putting sắp after the verb.
