How it works
Vẫn 'still' goes before the verb and stresses that something continues despite expectations: Trời vẫn mưa 'It's still raining'. Còn also means 'still' and often means 'still remaining': Còn sớm 'It's still early', Còn vé không? 'Are there still tickets?' They combine as vẫn còn. Negative 'not … anymore' is không… nữa: Tôi không hút thuốc nữa. Mistake: putting vẫn at the end like English, or saying vẫn không meaning 'not anymore' (it means 'still not').
