How it works
Mời invites someone to do something: Mời anh ngồi 'Please have a seat', Mời cả nhà ăn cơm 'Please eat, everyone'. Xin is humble 'please / may I' before your own action: Xin lỗi 'Sorry', Xin cảm ơn 'Thank you (formal)', Xin cho tôi hỏi 'May I ask…'. Ordering and asking for things: Cho tôi + N 'Give me…'. Mistakes: using mời for your own action (Mời tôi vào? is wrong — say Tôi vào được không?), or 'please' at the end like English.
