How it works
Ai means 'who/whom' and, like gì, stands where the answer goes. As the subject it is first: Ai gọi? 'Who's calling?' As the object it is after the verb: Bạn gặp ai? 'Who did you meet?' Đây là ai? 'Who is this?' Của ai? 'Whose?' Mistake: moving ai to the front when it is the object (Ai bạn gặp?). With là: Ai là giáo viên? 'Who is the teacher?'
