How it works
Gì 'what' stays in the place of the answer — usually at the END, after the verb: Bạn ăn gì? 'What do you eat?' (answer: Tôi ăn phở). There is no word-order change and no 'do'. After a noun, gì means 'what kind of': Bạn học tiếng gì? 'Which language do you study?' Mistake: putting gì first like English (Gì bạn ăn?). Tên là gì? = 'What is the name?'; Cái gì? = 'What (thing)?'
