How it works
Chứ at the end of a statement means 'of course / naturally': Đi chứ! 'Of course I'll go!' As a question it checks something the speaker assumes: Anh vẫn khỏe chứ? 'You're well, I trust?' Inside a sentence chứ means 'rather than / not': Tôi uống trà chứ không uống cà phê 'I drink tea, not coffee'. Mistake: using chứ like có… không for neutral questions to strangers — it presumes the answer.
