How it works
Degree words before the adjective: hơi 'a bit (often negative)', khá 'quite / fairly', rất 'very'. After the adjective: lắm 'very' (speech), quá 'so!' (exclaiming) or 'too' (excess): Đắt quá! 'So expensive!' / 'Too expensive!' Mistakes: putting hơi or khá after the adjective; using rất with quá (rất đẹp quá); confusing hơi (slight) with hơn (comparative). Southern speech often uses dữ / ghê: nóng ghê.
