How it works
Đang before a verb shows an action in progress, like English '-ing': Tôi đang ăn cơm 'I'm eating'. It is optional when the context is clear, and it can mark past progress too: Hôm qua lúc 8 giờ tôi đang ngủ 'at 8 yesterday I was sleeping'. Bây giờ 'now' often goes with it. Mistakes: putting đang after the verb (ăn đang) or using it for habits (Tôi đang làm giáo viên is OK only as 'currently working as').
