Sentence rhythm — every syllable gets equal time

Vietnamese gives each syllable roughly EQUAL length. There is no strong-weak alternation as in English.

English speakers compress the small words and stretch the important ones, which destroys the tones. Keep every syllable the same length and let the TONE carry the meaning.

Tôi đi học. — three equal beats
Tôi muốn đi Hà Nội. — five equal beats
Anh ăn cơm chưa ? — four equal beats
Hôm nay trời đẹp quá. — five equal beats
Cảm ơn anh rất nhiều. — five equal beats
