Final consonants are UNRELEASED
Vietnamese final T, C, P and CH are formed but never released. You put your mouth in position and stop, letting no air out.
English speakers release them and immediately sound foreign. Hold a sheet of paper in front of your mouth — it must not move at all.
- hát to sing — the T is silent, just a stop
- học to study — the C is a stop at the back
- đẹp beautiful — lips close and hold
- sách book — tongue stops at the palate
- một one — very common, practise it most
